Mayor William "Bill" Shaw is very serious about the Youth in Dolton. He understands that the youth are the future, and he works diligently to ensure they have opportunities to learn, grow and lead. Youth Commission
In 2003, Mayor Shaw revamped the Dolton Youth Commission, infusing the board with willing workers-- from educator and parents, to young people who wanted to volunteer. The Youth Commission offers tutoring programs, and sponsors various events to provide a safe, social haven for our children. The Youth Commission is always looking for more volunteers, so if you are interested, call the Mayor’s Office at (708) 201-3270. Summer Youth Program
For many years, Mayor Shaw hired approximately 25 to 50 high school students to work in the Village for the summer. These children worked in various departments throughout the Village, lending a helping hand during the busy summer months. The Mayor saw this as a way to instill valuable working skills in these students and to keep them off the streets. This program is currently on hiatus, but the Mayor looks forward to finding a way to reinstitute the Summer Youth Program in the coming years. |
