Police Department Participates in Annual Torch Run

June 9, 2004

Dolton, IL— The Village of Dolton’s Police Department participated in the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics for the 5 th consecutive year on June 8, 2004. The purpose of this run is to raise money for the Special Olympics—an organization that works to improve the well-being and lifestyles of mentally and physically disabled people. The run goes all over the state of Illinois, and Dolton is one of 37 communities who are a part of leg 9, which covers part of the South Suburbs.

Dolton runs approximately three miles, picking up the torch form the Burnham Police Department and handing it over to the South Holland Police. Runners, walkers, bikers and even motorcycle riders participate in the event and are sponsored by local business owners. It is truly a fun and worthwhile day.
