Cascade of Jazz Finale

Dolton, IL--The season finale of this year’s Cascade of Jazz was nothing short of extraordinary. The finale featured two extraordinary bands—Carlos Cannon & Company, and Soul Fedd—who each performed for two hours. The extra long set was befitting, since the Village had to actually add a week to the season because of the tremendous response. Each week, nearly 1,000 people from Dolton, Calumet City, South Holland, Chicago and the surrounding communities came out with their grills, friends and stepping shoes to enjoy the jazz nights.

Though we battled cool temperatures and threats of rain for many weeks throughout the summer, the talent this year was remarkable. This year also sparked the adoption of several “nicknames” for attendees. There were the “Grillers” who always had a hot grill burning on Park Avenue in front of the Village Hall. Next were the “Steppers” who were light-on-their feet dancers and usually staked out a spot in the middle catwalk of the waterfall. And last, but by no means least were the people on “Library Hill.” These groups faithfully setup chairs and grills all over the library campus, even perching themselves on top of the hill to maximize their listening and eating pleasure.

Mayor Shaw and the Village Board would like to thank everyone who came out to participate in this 3 rd season of Cascade of Jazz. Whether you found your thrill on Library Hill, or stepped in the name of love on Park Avenue, your support was greatly appreciated. Cascade of Jazz is expected to return next year, each Wednesday night from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
